Thunderlizard Presentation

I just taught two sessions at the Thunderlizard Web Design conference in Seattle. In the first session, I talked about Rapid Flash Application development with components, using the same source file from last week's workshop in New York. The main difference is that I covered a lot more material in Seattle because I didn't have a cold, but otherwise, the source files are the same.

In the second session, I talked a bit about OOP and Actionscript, with a focus on how to build re-usable components. I also got to walk through a Flash application using SharedObjects, and spent a few minutes describing the LocalConnection feature.

Source code for the Flash Applications and OOP Actionscript are now online. Thanks to everyone who attended the session!

Saw both of your presentations. Our company sent us there to investigate flash as a way to deliver multimedia content, now we just have to see if we can re-use some of the work we've done with PHP and MySQL to drive that content.

Your presentations were by far the best. You've got a relaxed teaching style that is very thorough and very effective.

Thanks,
Rob

Hello Sam,
This was the second time I've heard you speak (the one time was in San Francisco last year). I've love the presentation it was awesome, You always have some new stuff to show. Great Job. I was just wondering if you could send me a sample of the style actionscrip code to modify the design of a component...

thanks,
Fabio

FYI, all the FLAs contain a non-device type (HelveticaNeueCondensed), so if you don't have it there are plenty of font mapping dialog boxes to click through.

Cheers to posting your files online open-source, Sam! If only more developers would follow your lead.

Nigel rulz :)

Thanks for all the kind words, I'm really glad that folks are getting some practical use out of the presentation materials! Hey, don't forget to fill out the conference survey form so that they invite me back :-)

If you've got any questions about the code, you can post them here, and I'd also recommend the flashcoders mailing list if you're interested in advanced Actionscript:

Sam,

I 'm only 3 hours away from Chicago, so when you get all settled in, have a session or two. That would be very cool.

Darn it. I live in Seattle, and didn't even know about the conference :( Oh well, I wasn't near Seattle at the time anyways...

Next time you're planning on doing something in or around the Seattle area, please post something on it before, so I can go :)

Maybe you did and I missed it?

Went to Thunderlizard conference in Boston, at which you gave out a URL for files you would post, but they never turned up at that address. Since you were working with Flashcom, I was disappointed. Are you planning on posting these? Thanks, Deb
