Putting my course work online

I'm thinking of putting some of my graduate course work online. The material would include projects, papers and assignments from the School of Information Master's degree program in human computer interaction (HCI) and information science. If I do put my work online, my goal would be to promote appreciation for HCI-related topics, including but not limited to usability engineering. For professionals in other disciplines, posting my course work online might also provide some insights into the skills, knowledge, and formal training that HCI graduates receive, both in the class / lab and in real-world environments.

Some of my courses include:
Evaluation of Systems and Services (including usability engineering)
Information Visualization
Search and Retrieval
Choice and Learning (cognitive science and economics)
Cognitive / Behavioral Psychology and Information Systems
Programming I & II in Java
Design of Database Applications
Design of Complex Websites
User Interface Design
Digital Music Production
Information Architecture
Use of Information
Social Systems and Organizations

What do you think? Would this be a good idea?

I miss some stuff about semiotics in addition to the cognitive angel you got on it. It opens up for a few new unexplored aspects of HCI.
Apart from that I think it's a great idea.
Information wants to be free.

ah...just realized we're talking about your paper. I thought you were scheduling a course. Sorry.

Posted by: henrik at April 18, 2002 08:01 PM

I think it would be a good idea.It would promote your view on the subject and enlighten others to the real world application of HCI. It would also giva an insight into what is being taught at an academic level and I would especially be interested in your findings. In other word's yes.

I would love to read more about database, user interface and complex website design!

Haven't found much information about these more advanced subjects on the net.

YES! ;-)

What more can I say? I want to pick your brain :-) hehe

...it makes sense from the beginning to post this info online for humans to interact with... many many people would benefit from the information.

Thank you for the feedback! I've just survived finals week, and only have 2 more days to go.

The first paper I'll post is a cleaned-up version of my analysis on the Flash community. I took the course, "Social Systems and Organizations", during my first semester at school. That class influenced my perspective on how the Flash community embodied the 1999-2001 era of revolutionary web design by providing a repository of knowledge through organizational structuration, procedures, and social capital.

After that, I might post some 1-page homework assignments on different information visualization models.

I'll also post the final report from my information architecture course, taught by Peter Morville (author of the Info Architecture book from O'Reilly). My team performed an analysis of the Land's End website for the final report.

One of my papers might not be posted because it might have some strategic value for a future employer, we'll see. It was my favorite paper...

Look for a new post in 2.5 days!

"Structuration?" Careful that grad school doesn't fill your head with those academic non-words.

You got to study with Peter M? I'm jealous.
